Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: Up to £21,333 (age dependant)
Hours: (37.5) Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00

Sheffield Ford is expanding our Accounts and Finance team and are now recruiting for a Trainee Accountant to join our hard-working and friendly team. You'll be reporting directly to the accomplished Market Area Accountant, Jonathan Shipman, who with his wealth of accounting knowledge will guide and support you on your road to becoming a truly successful Accountant.

This role will include studying towards your AAT qualification, which will be paid for by Lookers, and will allow you the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’. The AAT (or, the Association of Accounting Technicians) is one of the most popular routes for those looking to gain accountancy qualifications and will enable you to progress and develop your skills to establish a long successful career in the industry. This is the perfect opportunity for all Finance enthusiasts to join an award-winning business and work alongside some of the most talented and enthusiastic managers in the Automotive Industry.

The Trainee Accountant will be the backbone of this finance department, as you will support and learn from everyone within the team, allowing you to gain experience of all the roles within a Dealership Accounting and Finance Department. You will be required to use your knowledge and skills previously gained to help and support the entire team whilst also effectively working alongside the Market Area Accountant to ensure accurate and timely financial results are achieved.
  • Cashiering responsibilities (banking, petty cash)
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices
  • Review and reconcile Debtors and carry out credit control procedures
  • Assist with various monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist the management teams by resolving any accounting queries
  • Report discrepancies to the relevant departmental manager
  • Liaise with managers on a regular basis, building strong relationships

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at level 4-9 or above (or equivalent), including Maths and English. You must have an eagerness to learn and be willing to commit to studying for your AAT qualifications for between 1-3 years.

You must be capable of building good relationships with colleagues across the business and have strong communication skills. You should have a willingness to use your own initiative and be confident in asking questions to learn quickly on the job.

Previous experience within a finance orientated role is not essential, however you must be able to demonstrate sufficient Microsoft Excel skills & thrive on paying close attention to detail to maintain accurate records.

Being organised will be second nature to you and communication is key, as you will showcase this in varying methods in this role. You will also be privy to sensitive information at times, so being discreet and protecting confidential material is a must.
